Over the past month, DCHS events have been extraordinarily well attended. At the DAR/SAR Event, each attendee was able to receive individual attention from our presenters and volunteers, leading to an improved experience for everyone involved and several new members of both organizations. Our Outlaw Gunning presentation by Joe Walsh was very well attended with crowds arriving throughout the day to view special exhibits.
Many of these guests were locals who added to the experience with their own stories, artifacts, and anecdotes. Our Hedgehog Carving Class reached the maximum capacity and proceeded without incident, providing a safe and educational environment for attendees of all ages to learn the basics of carving and woodwork. (Plus, the hedgehogs were really cute!)
Our Children’s Tea Party also reached maximum capacity. It was a big hit not only for the children, but also for their guardians. Everyone had the opportunity to make their own butter, take family photos, and enjoy quality time together. Donnie Willey’s Maryland and the Civil War Presentation was the most highly attended presentation of the past year with nearly fifty guests, some of whom spoke of their own relatives and experiences with Civil War history and historic sites.
As event attendance increases, DCHS would like to ensure everyone who is interested in our upcoming programs is able to attend, though attendees would be advised to register early in order to secure their position in case events become fully booked.
Speaking of which, we have numerous exciting events planned for the month of August! Make sure to check out our current events page for the latest details on our Woodpecker Doorknocker Kids Carving Class, the South Dorchester Folk Museum’s next presentation, our Calendar Photo Contest Deadline, a Beginner’s Quilting Workshop, a presentation by Terry Crannell on the history of Giants in Dorchester, and a presentation by author Brent Lewis on his book, “Stardust by the Bushel.”
