About the event
In partnership with Urban Grid/Egypt Road Solar, the Dorchester County Historical Society (DCHS) is beginning a new project: working towards the continual preservation of a historic African American burial ground just outside of Cambridge. Silent City Cemetery, as it is called, has been in disrepair for quite a few years. It was started by a local Reverend who worked tirelessly to care for people in need, and now DCHS hopes to honor the work that he and others have done to take care of the cemetery property and those buried there. In a free evening presentation, DCHS and Urban Grid will share a bit about the history of the cemetery, the goals in place for its preservation, and hear from any community members who may have memories or stories they'd like to share. DCHS will begin the ongoing work of documenting the cemetery's history and progress towards preservation.
