The Dorchester County Historical Society has an extensive library, The Todd Research Center located in the Robbins Heritage Center.  This collection includes a broad selection of reference materials including books (many out of print), atlases, compilations and transcriptions, photographs, ledgers, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks and more.  The Moxey Collection contains 400+ volumes of material, mostly gleaned from newspapers (obituaries, marriages, etc.) and  arranged alphabetically.  Recently added The Shirley Jackson Collection is a wonderful resource for African American ancestry.  Also included in this room are published family genealogies and histories.

As this is the fastest growing area of the campus, we are constantly looking for volunteers to assist with library tasks, research, filing and much more.  No prior library experience is required but a willingness to work with others and interest in history is a must!

Researchers are welcome during regular hours and a $5/person fee does apply.  Usually there are staff people on hand to assist but to be certain, call ahead if you need help.  Listings of the collection are included in the links below, where you may search for key words.

Copies of documents are available for researchers to use, originals are stored.  Researchers are not permitted to bring bags, food or drink into the facilities.  Copies are available at .25 per copy for non-DCHS members and photographs are allowed.   Additional research assistance is available at $20/hour with a prepaid fee.
