History Matters-Dorchester: Rumrunners, Skyraiders and a Possible Murder-The amazing life and times of the Holland Island Bar Lighthouse
September 19 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
In a lonely spot out in the bay, just south of the remains of Holland Island, stands a nondescript mechanical navigation light surrounded by miles of empty water and occupied by a few families of birds. It would be hard to imagine a more dull and boring place.
It turns out that looks can be deceiving and isolation can be deadly.
Join author John Reisinger for a look at the amazing and eventful history of the Holland Island Bar Lighthouse, and the real-life crime that inspired his book Death at the Lighthouse. Hear about the interconnected lives of the watermen, light keepers, rumrunners, the Coast Guard and ordinary people that made up the lost world of the Chesapeake Bay in the 1920s.
